I am the Elementary Enrichment Facilitator for Sayville Public Schools. I teach a grade 4/5 gifted pull-out program called S.E.E.D., a grade 4/5 pull-out enrichment program called Challenge & the grade 3 through 6 Mathlete programs. I also am available to assist teachers in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of their advanced learners.
I received both my B.A. in Elementary Education & Sociology and M.S. degree in Elementary Education with a szpecialty in Children's Literature, from the City University of New York at Queens College. I possess Pre K - 6 Elementary Education certification & a Gifted & Talented Education extension. I've completed more than 100 additional credits with a focus on gifted education, classroom management/teaching technique and the use of technology.
Over the years I have collaborated on several curriculum grants and have written educational material. Projects have included: A Teachers’ Resource Guide to prepare students for the NYS ELA, Parent Information Night Curriculum Guide, Science units on plants, magnets & buoyancy, 4th grade NYS Mathematics Assessment supplemental practice material, guided reading material, resources for incorporating technology, identifying and outlining grade specific elementary benchmarks, math test prep books for Texas & Colorado, & a videoconferencing unit about the Long Island Maritime Museum for Eastern Suffolk BOCES' Project View and the New York Institute of Technology. A few years ago I worked as a consultant with the NYS Department of Education on the 5th grade Social Studies assessment. I'm currently on the education committee of the National Association for Gifted Children, the newsletter editor for the NAGC Creativity Network, & on MENSA's teacher advisory panel.
I enjoy using technology whenever I can and am a proud computer geek. I have attended the NYSCATE (New York State Association for Computer Technologies in Education) conference twice, as well as having presented at ASSET (Association of Suffolk Supervisors for Educational Technology), SCOPE and the Eastern Suffolk BOCES CTE (Celebration of Technology in Education) technology conferences.
Whenever I get the chance I love traveling & visiting some of the places that I've read about in books & have always wanted to go. I've been to England, the Netherlands, Ireland, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Spain, Mallorca, France, Monaco, Morocco, Mexico, the Bahamas, Greece, Italy, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Barts, St. Maarten, Alaska & have been on several road trips across the U.S. My latest adventure was traveling Europe by train.
